About Make It Matter

Home » About Us

Make It Matter is a volunteer-driven initiative creating memorable events that raise money for local charities and non-profits in Caledonia and surrounding areas.

We believe in the power of community support. We know that a single event can spark lasting change when it’s built on connection, generosity, and a whole lot of heart. That’s why we started Make It Matter: to bring people together, raise funds for local causes, and support the organizations that keep our town strong.

Our team is made up of three locals who share a passion for giving back through action: Michal Strugala, and Heather and Ryan Mastromatteo. Together, we organize fundraising events that are as fun as they are impactful, with 100 percent of proceeds going to charities and non-profits in our area.

Meet the Team Making It Matter

Michal Strugala

Michal is the spark behind Make It Matter and the owner of Strategy Construction. At work, he’s known as “Magic Mike,” a name earned from years of showing up with unmatched energy, precision, and hustle on every project. Whether he’s running a job site or helping organize a charity event, Michal brings the same attitude: get it done, do it well, and enjoy the ride.

As the driving force behind many of our events, Michal combines hands-on skill with a real passion for helping others. His leadership keeps things moving forward, and his humour keeps things fun. For Michal, giving back to the community isn’t a slogan, it’s just how he operates.

Heather & Ryan Mastromatteo

Heather and Ryan have called Caledonia home for the past seven years. Like many people who settle here, they were drawn to the small-town feel. But it wasn’t until tragedy struck that they experienced the true strength of this community. Just one year after moving in, they lost their home in a fire. Neighbours, friends, and strangers rallied around them. That support left a lasting mark.

The very next year, they decided to give back, not out of obligation, but out of gratitude. What began as a small food drive BBQ for the Caledonia Food Bank quickly turned into a full Christmas food drive. Over the past five years, it has grown into an annual food and toy drive that helps dozens of families across Haldimand County.

In 2023, Heather and Ryan decided to do more. They envisioned something different: a fun night out that would also support local charities. Monte Carlo Night was born. The response from the community confirmed what they already knew: Caledonia is full of people who care, and they’re ready to show up when it counts.

Driven by Community, Fueled by Purpose

At its core, Make It Matter exists because of the people who call this town home. We’re inspired by the support we’ve received and the stories we hear every day from organizations that need funding, volunteers, and visibility. Our mission is simple: create community-based charity events that raise money and awareness for the groups doing the real work on the ground.

Whether it’s hosting a Monte Carlo Night to benefit a local support organization, organizing a toy drive for families in need, or planning future fundraising events in Caledonia, we are committed to keeping things local, transparent, and meaningful.

We are proud to say that every dollar raised through Make It Matter goes directly to the charities we support. There is no paid staff, no overhead, and no middlemen. Just good people working together to help those who need it most.

If you believe in giving back, supporting local charities, or simply want to attend a fun night out for a good cause, we invite you to join us. Together, we can make it matter.
